About 10
years ago, I remember brainstorming with a financial advisor about how they
could increase their business. One
interesting idea that I came up with was to visit local bookstore chains, visit
the “Personal Finance” isle or “Money Management” isle, select a few relevant
books on that subject and insert your business cards in the middle of the
book. It was an interesting idea at the
time, but as we came up with more lead generation opportunities that business card idea just kind of fell to the
bottom of the list.
This idea
that I had many years ago, never surfaced until yesterday. I was searching for a gift at a major
bookstore chain and decided to visit the “Personal Finance” isle. The topic that I was looking for was on
municipal and corporate bonds. I opened
up one book and in the middle of the book was a business card. It was a business card of someone who was a
bond specialist and he actually specialized in buying and selling of municipal
bonds. Then, I decided to see if this
was just a one-time occurrence.And
guess what? It wasn’t and I couldn’t
believe it!
I opened up
another book on bonds and he had another card in the middle of the book. I opened up another book and I saw another
one of his cards. I continued opening up
books about bonds and kept seeing his business card stuck in the middle of the
book. For every book that I opened my
smile got larger and larger. I knew
exactly what he was doing and I loved it!
I had the idea ten years ago, but this guy made it real. He made the idea come to life and based on
what I found, he probably visited every major bookstore in the county.
What I like
most about this idea is that it creates an opportunity for incoming calls. And of course, it’s much easier to take
incoming calls than make outbound sales calls.
This guy’s in a niche market, he found a conduit to reach his niche
market and now all he has to do is sit back and let the calls ride. This idea makes you think more about what ideas
are still out there to generate passive calls like this one. Have you taken a few minutes to brainstorm
new ideas? Perhaps this idea will
inspire you to take a new course of action.
