Here’s a little trick that will increase your call-to-contact ratios. After you make a cold call send an email to your sales prospect. It take a minute or so extra, but it will help to speed up your sales success. Is this considered spamming? Absolutely not! I verified this with the Federal Trade Commission. According to them, emailing is not spamming as long as you do the following:
Insert the email address in the "to" column and not the "bcc" column (where a lot of spamming occurs)
The subject line cannot be misleading or be a straight out advertisement
You must include a way for your prospects to opt-out
Feel free to check out the CAN SPAM ACT for additional information about the do’s and dont's of emailing. The next question that you may have is how do I get an email address if the screener won’t give it to me? The very first thing I would do is go to Network Solutions or any of the domain sites on the internet and type in the domain of the company you are targeting.
Your next step is to find out what information is listed under the company's domain name and you do this by clicking on the "WHO IS" button. Seven times out of ten, you will see a contact listed under the "Administrative Contact." Here they list that contact’s email address and now you have an idea of how your prospect’s email may be configured. For example, if the contact's email is their first letter and last name @thenameofthedomain.com you would then copy this pattern to your prospect’s email address. If this straegy doesn’t seem to work try a few of these ideas:
Contact the company's PR Department
Do a google.com search and type in part of the company’s domain name. For example, you would type in @thenameofthedomain.com (you may have to scroll down google's search listings, but you will eventually see an email address from that company that you can apply the technique that I spoke about in the previous paragraph
Contact another screener at the company and ask if they will kindly give it to you (since your prospect is not their boss, a lot of times they really don’t care and will donate the email address to you)
Go to the company’s website and search the site for emails
Check out the company’s latest new stories. A lot of times there is a media contact listed at the end of the story
Contact the mailroom at the company
