Cold Calling Superstars Really Don't Need to Attend Networking Events
written by Pop Icon Mr. Cold Call™
What I'm about to say may really shock you! If you're a superstar cold caller then you will never ever have to attend networking events. There is absolutely nothing wrong with attending networking events, but there's only 24 hours in the day and when I'm done with work, I'm done. This doesn’t mean that I’m lazy because I’m not. I believe in the philosophy that working smarter garners more success than working harder. And for me, I find that I make better use of my time on the telephone rather than drumming up new business by attending networking events.
My form of networking is done over the telephone and with prospects that I meet with in person. I have no interest in mingling with business owners or prospects after hours, however, events during the day are doable. Bottom-line is I prefer not attending the scheduled after hours networking events because I just don't have the time and as a result, I decided to fine-tune my cold calling efforts so that I never ever have to attend networking events in the future. There are always exceptions of course to this rule of thumb.
If I want to meet realtors no problem because I can just call them up and introduce myself (with the goal of meeting them in person and doing business with them in the near future). If I want to meet accountants no problem because I can just call them up and introduce myself (with the goal of meeting them in person and doing business with them in the near future). If I want to meet successful business owners no problem because I can just call them up to introduce myself (with the goal of meeting them in person and doing business with them in the near future). As a cold caller, you call the shots, you can decide who you want to meet with and who you want to speak with and you can achieve this success through strategic telephone marketing (and a top-notch attitude). Of course, not everyone may want to meet with you, but that is something you mentally prepare for prior to each and every call.
One might argue the following: “Don’t you want to get out and meet people in person and network?” The answer is YES! I do that all the time! The bulls eye purpose of initiating a cold call is to set up a visit to your prospect’s office. You can meet plenty of quality prospects if you put your mind to it. There is a place for networking however, if you just can’t make things happen on the telephone on a consistent basis then of course that is one really good reason to get out there and network. Networking is fun too, but so is cold calling if you really know what you’re doing!
