Did you know that Thomas Edison Took Naps? by Mr. Cold Call
I was listening to National Public Radio the other and they had profiled a new company called MetroNaps (www.metronaps.com). What is it? This company is based in the financial district of New York City and they provide business professionals a "rest area" to sleep during their lunch hour. According to their website a "mid-day nap boosts your alertness, mood" and can have a profound affect on your performance at work. Have you ever thought about taking a short nap during lunch to get rejuvenated at work?
Taking naps during the day is quite common. In fact, Did you know that Thomas Edison used to take "Power Naps" throughout the day? Edison used power napping to catch up on much-needed rest and to give his phenomenal brain a break from conscious effort, allowing his unconscious processes to do the genius thinking for him. There might be some people who may say this is ridiculous, however, I encourage you to try it. I currently take a short 30 minute nap during the day (during lunch time) and I feel much more rested and alert. Next question, where can you take a nap? If you are not located near a "Metronap" then try your car! Here are a few things you may want to do if you happen to try out this idea:
- Buy a portable fan with batteries to run in your car while you take a nap (Bed Bath and Beyond has a nice one for $15 when you use one of their coupons).
- If you want to look refreshed when you get back to work (so that you don’t look like you’ve taken a nap) I would buy a skin moisturizer and apply it to your face before you return to your desk.
- Invest in perfume (this will compliment your attempt to look refreshed).
- Make sure that you are parked in a low-traffic area.
And finally, you may want to play some soft music like Enya or purchase one of those tapes called Sounds Of Nature while you rest.
