What Do You Get When You Mix Cold Calling With Toys? You Get Instant Attention! by Mr. Cold Call
One way to instantly catch the attention of your sales
prospect is to give them a toy. Yes, you
read that correctly! What kind of
toy? The type of toy that you give them
really depends on your conversation, their interests and what they do. If you give your prospect the right toy, it
puts a smile on their face, warms up your cold call and opens the door of
possibility. This “possibility” is an
opportunity for you to do business with them!
First, let’s explore when you can use this technique. You can use this technique either in-person
such as cold calling office buildings or if you are cold calling prospects by
telephone. For example, if you are
visiting more than one dental office, you could bring a small doll of a dentist
or one of those wind-up chattering teeth.
Either one of these toys could be used to “break the ice” on your cold
calls.
When you walk in their office, introduce your self, ask to
speak with the dentist (state a compelling reason for your visit) and let the
receptionist know that you have a special gift for the dentist courtesy of
(Your company name here). You can attach
your business card with a note about your product and/or service (list both features
and benefits). If the dentist cannot
meet with you then follow up with a phone call.
Many times the dentist will take or return your voicemail out of
courtesy. You gave them something and
now they may feel obligated to thank you!
You can also apply this technique on your telephone
calls. For example, If you are speaking with your
prospect and they mention that they collect antique cars then you could send
them a die-cast car of an old Corvette or Mustang. Why do this?
Besides making them smile it shows them that you are really listening to
them. And one key to winning the sale is
through relationship building. Can you
think of a better way to build a business relationship with your prospect then
by giving them a toy?
